About the artwork
This painting depicts the lifeblood of my community: agriculture. The four sections represent the stages of farming, from planting to harvesting, illustrating the connection between humans, the land, and the seasons. In the top left, people sow seeds, reflecting the beginning of the agricultural cycle, a time of hope and anticipation. The central path, lined with patterns resembling furrows, symbolizes the flow of life and work through the village, where everyone plays a role in the harvest.
The bottom half showcases the fields, teeming with crops, as farmers labour to nurture and collect the bounty. The figures on the right are harvesting grain, their efforts symbolizing the culmination of a season’s hard work and the reward of abundance.
In June, we begin sowing paddy, and by August, the planting is completed. When November arrives, the crop is ready for harvest.
This painting captures the essence of sustenance, illustrating how deeply rooted we are in our environment. The white figures, contrasting with the earthy brown background, emphasize the simplicity and purity of our relationship with the land.
